Whitko Community School Corporation - South Whitley, Indiana

Whitko Community Schools Corporation in South Whitley, IN hired Wightman to conduct a feasibility study of their junior/senior high school. To support the school’s vision of “Excellence for All,” the architecture team at Wightman developed a conceptual design and programming to separate the junior high from the high school by renovating an existing vo-tech wing. This supported the integration of 7th and 8th grade students into a separate “school within a school.”

The new space supports language arts, math, and science classes that best meet the educational needs of the students and creates an engaging and safe environment for junior high students to optimize their learning opportunities. By utilizing space already at the campus, the school district responsibly managed taxpayer resources and can better serve the community.

This is one of several projects on which Wightman has been entrusted by the Whitko Community Schools administration, staff, and students. Other projects include a renovation of the district's central office, the construction lab renovation, and additional feasibility study and design work.
