KRESA Career & Technical Education Campus-Kalamazoo, Michigan

The mission of Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency (KRESA) is to inspire educational excellence in West Michigan by offering programs from early childhood education to training services for adults.  With its goal of service at the forefront of everything they do, KRESA is creating a phenomenal educational opportunity for the Kalamazoo community thanks, in part, to a $100 million anonymous gift and passage of an operating millage in 2019. The educational service agency has designated the funds to create a world class career and technical education facility.

KRESA selected Wightman, DLR Group, and IMEG to dream, design, and develop the World Class CTE Center. Wightman and DLR led visioning workshops and charrette to guide the process that resulted in a facility designed to be student-centered and flexible to meet current and future changes in career-based program deliveries. The visioning workshops and charrette engaged a cross-section of stakeholders, from students to business leaders to community members, in a collaborative process. The goal was to achieve consensus supporting a vision for the new CTE Center. The facility will enable to students to observe, research, and create while accessing technology to problem solve, engage the community, become physically fit, and prepare for a future beyond their high school years. Teachers, administrators, staff, and volunteers will have ample space to instruct, work, plan, and conduct conferences and meetings.  Learning and collaborative spaces of varying types and spaces will accommodate current scheduling needs but can adapt to future enrollment growth.

The CTE facility will provide an integrated, technology-enriched environment intended to develop life-long learners. The result will be a career-based facility designed to meet the needs of the students in the 21st Century in an adaptable and flexible environment.
