Getaway House Campgrounds
Getaway Kettle River - Willow River, Minn.
The lapping waves of Long Lake and the rippling water of Kettle River in Willow River, Minnesota, create an ideal spot for relaxation, a slower pace, and a restorative retreat. The development of Getaway Kettle River campground allows visitors to take in the area’s rich offerings without completely leaving all the comforts of home.
Our understanding of the need for serenity and peacefulness is one reason we are the site developer of campgrounds throughout the Midwest. From Minnesota and Michigan to Ohio, our site development team assesses landscapes for the perfect location to join people and nature together.
The development of 50 recreational vehicle campsites and a maintenance building now allows for a peaceful escape adjacent to the inviting waters. A gravel road circles the site, inviting an intentionally slower pace and the opportunity to more deeply appreciate the parcel’s beauty.
The project included a new well, water distribution and wastewater collection system, an electrical distribution system, a concept plan, and a drain field enabling connections to electrical, sewer, and water systems at each site.
Before the construction process began, the Wightman team made sure the right permits and approvals necessary for the campground were followed and completed at the township, county, and state level. In addition, they made sure that any necessary wetland or traffic studies had been conducted.
Working in partnership with Stantec, we made coordinated engineering design efforts throughout the project.
Wightman’s selection for and success in this project is rooted in our belief that spaces should positively impact their users and our simultaneous commitment to maintain the character and uniqueness of Getaway campgrounds. The result is a feature-rich hideaway.
Getaway Barber Creek - Grand Junction, Mich.
Nestled among 79 acres of expansive trees, thick foliage, and curious wildlife, and located near the shores of Lester Lake in Grand Junction, Michigan, Getaway Barber Creek campground offers a return to nature, an opportunity to rebalance the soul, and a chance to rebuild connections with family and friends.
This project saw the creation of 49 recreational vehicle campsites; two maintenance buildings; a new well, water distribution, and wastewater collection system; an electrical distribution system; and a drain field. In addition to developing the site, our team of construction inspectors and materials testers were on hand to ensure the development meets compliance specifications and local requirements.
The impact of creating spaces for people where rest, relaxation, and reconnection are emphasized is immeasurable, and we are proud of the work we do to make these places possible.
Getaway The Thumb - Columbiaville, Mich.
The development of 150 rustic acres in Columbiaville, Michigan, presented an interesting and exciting challenge for our nature-loving, outdoorsy team at Getaway The Thumb. Sunsets over undisturbed landscapes just feel more relaxing and awe-inspiring and cool breezes are even more refreshing set to the sound of rustling leaves on well-established trees.
Our ability to maintain as much of the natural, untouched feel of the property while incorporating accessible infrastructure helped create a space that is as beautiful as it is convenient including 45 recreational vehicle campsites; a maintenance building; and a new water distribution and wastewater collection and treatment system.
Allowing the property to influence its development, a gravel roadway was designed to follow the rolling hills and keep the natural feel of the property. Once visitors arrive at their campsite, new connections to electrical, water, and sewer systems await them, balancing ambiance and amenities.
Working in partnership with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, we made improvement in accordance with the location’s proximity to the 100-year floodplain and regulated wetlands.
