Niles Charter Township Hall - Niles, Michigan

Wightman partnered with Niles Charter Township to develop a conceptual design for a modernized Township Hall that addresses the needs of both residents and employees. The design encompasses a comprehensive renovation and an 8,000-square-foot addition, incorporating a thoughtfully reorganized site layout and carefully planned interior spaces.

The redesigned Township Hall resolves key challenges including insufficient storage, cramped staff areas, and an outdated town hall chamber that did not adequately serve the community. By integrating zoning, DPW, clerk, and treasury services into a centralized and collaborative environment, the new layout enhances operational efficiency and supports teamwork across departments.

Key features of the design include:

  • Optimized Workflow: Streamlined floor plans improve staff productivity and centralize administrative functions.
  • Accessibility Improvements: A reorganized site layout reduces walking distances to the entrance, making the facility more accessible for elderly residents and those with mobility challenges.
  • Sustainability and Cost Efficiency: Energy-efficient windows and sustainable design elements reduce utility expenses and environmental impact.
  • Adaptability: Flexible spaces accommodate future growth, minimizing the need for additional expansions down the road.

The result is a modern, functional Township Hall that meets today’s needs while positioning the community for long-term success.
