Midwest Metal Products Facility Expansion – Michigan City, Indiana
Midwest Metal Products, the nation’s leading manufacturer of structural angle rings, partnered with Wightman to double the size of their production facility to 27,000 square feet in support of their aggressive growth strategy.
Wightman provided architectural, engineering, and construction administration services, working side-by-side with the owner, who elected to self-perform the construction. Our team played a key role in managing coordination, scheduling, and quality control, helping guide the client through every step of the process. Together, we overcame construction challenges and maintained full plant operations—completing the project on time and under budget.
Beyond the building design, Wightman supported the Township and client with grant and loan acquisition, preparation of construction and bid documents, bid administration, and contract administration. Our environmental team also completed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, Asbestos Survey, and Universal Waste Survey, ensuring regulatory compliance and a smooth path to construction.
The expansion included two bridge cranes with 60-foot spans, four recessed loading docks, eight-foot-deep mechanical pits, and a full replacement of the building’s south wall—all completed while production continued uninterrupted.
Through collaboration, technical expertise, and proactive problem-solving, Wightman delivered a solution that advanced Midwest Metal Products’ operations and long-term growth with minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.
