Wightman welcomes 5 new hires to its engineering department

Wightman continues to grow with the recent addition of five new employees based in its Benton Harbor and Kalamazoo offices.


Nate Weinberg of Vicksburg, Michiganjoined Wightman as a field service technician in the engineering department. He has more than 13 years of experience in road construction, inspection, and construction staking. Weinberg works out of the Kalamazoo office and previously attended Michigan Laborers Training and Apprenticeship Institute.


Ryan Smith of St. Joseph, Michigan, has been hired as part of the engineering team at Wightman as a field survey technician, in the Benton Harbor office. He has six months of field experience.


Maria Carpita of Kalamazoo, Michigan, has been hired as a civil engineer in the company’s engineering department in the Kalamazoo office. She has over two years’ experience, including three summers of internships at Wightman, in bridge and dam inspection, testing, and construction management. Carpita earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University.


Jon Utter of Sister Lakes, Michigan, has joined the Wightman engineering team as a field service technician in the Benton Harbor office. He has two years’ experience in site inspection and spent 10 years with a major highway contractor prior to joining the Wightman team. Combined, he has 13 years of experience in both the civil construction and engineering fields.


Matthew Mitchell of Benton Harbor, Michigan, has been hired as a field service technician with the Wightman engineering team based in the company’s Benton Harbor office. He has seven months of experience in the role as an inspector on transportation projects. Mitchell is a Veteran of the United State Air Force having served from 2016-2020 and achieving the rank of Senior Airman. He served as a Security Forces Officer while stationed at Osan Air Base, South Korea and Wright Patterson Air Base, Ohio.
