Tom Schmaltz
Field Technician, Engineering
When Tom began working at Wightman in 1973, he was one of about a dozen employees who worked out of a small building in downtown St. Joseph. During his more than 45 years with the company, he has been a part of the company’s tremendous growth. For 17 years, Tom was a surveying crew chief responsible for staking the layout of numerous roads, sewers, bridges, and buildings. A field technician for many years, today Tom is responsible for concrete quality assurance and control testing, density control of aggregates and bituminous materials, and analysis of bituminous mixtures and aggregates for projects throughout Southwestern Michigan and Northern Indiana.
