Silver Beach Park-St. Joseph, Michigan

Silver Beach Park, located in downtown St. Joseph, Michigan, stretches nearly 2,400 feet along the Lake Michigan shoreline. A popular destination since 1891, Berrien County acquired the property in 1990 and has steadily made improvements. Over the past two decades, hundreds of thousands of visitors have enjoyed the park’s amenities, pristine waters, warm sands, iconic lighthouse, and beautiful sunsets.

In 2014, Wightman worked with the Berrien County Parks Commission on additional improvements which included a 40’ pavilion, walkway to the pier, restroom facility, relocation of playground equipment, parking,  park entry feature, WIFI, and power pedestals. Services provided by Wightman included, among others, design, construction documentation, and construction administration.

Funding for the project came from multiple sources including a Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant, a concession stand pouring fee from Pepsi, and dollars from the County budget.

With the new amenities at the park, residents and visitors can relax, refresh, and reconnect with family, friends, and nature in a serene setting.
